Designed by Atelier I-N-D-J, SOL37 at the W Hotel Suzhou is a new gastro lounge and landmark that redefines luxury hospitality. Commissioned by Suzhou Hengtai and Marriott International, the project revitalizes a pre-existing venue through a holistic approach: OBJECTS, PLACES, EXPERIENCES. The design offers a seamless journey from arrival to the 37th and 38th floors, working closely with W and The Orange Blowfish to create a unified brand and graphic identity.
The experience begins at drop-off and unfolds as a theatrical narrative. Guests embark on a multi-act journey — from the serene, light-filled lobby (Act 1: CLEANSE), through a moody elevator ascent (Act 2: TRANSIT), into an illuminated ante room and corridor (Acts 3–4), and onward into a sequence of immersive spaces punctuated by four major art installations.
Installation No.1, SUN TRANSIT, uses light and shadow to reflect primal connections. In the INTERLUDE (Act 5), guests encounter SOLAR BLOOM, a kinetic sculpture of mirrored facets mimicking a flower’s slow bloom, symbolizing self-discovery. As the journey continues, TOTEMIC FRACTAL (No.3) refracts lake views into dreamlike images.
Act 6 leads to the heart of SOL37 — an atrium with panoramic views and LUNAR DRIFT, the fourth installation: 1,150 elliptical panels that echo moon phases and bridge the dining and sky bar levels. Guests experience an evolving atmosphere, with lighting and spatial cues creating intimacy and grandeur.
Act 7 reveals the soul of SOL37, a space that transitions throughout the evening with tailored lighting, elevated sound, and curated performances. Finally, Act 8 — “A World Beyond” — on Level 38 offers a cozy, sophisticated bar. Its centerpiece: a silvered droplet housing the DJ and mixologist, elevating nightlife to a multisensory art form.
