In -32°C Arctic conditions, Ian and Ben Rousseau built a TRON-inspired ice hotel room using river ice, snow, and electroluminescent wire — merging bold design with futuristic light in extreme conditions.

Over two weeks in the arctic, Ian together with Ben Rousseau created a futuristic ice hotel room from snow, blocks of frozen river ice and high-tech lighting — electroluminescent wire.

The room commissioned by Disney and Lastminute to promote the 2010 Tron remake: Tron: Legacy, features bold forms cut with the ICE with lighting embedded within the ICE.

From design to onsite ICE was a perfect project where unanticipated challenges presented, and quick thinking required to have useful solutions. Working conditions at -32°C and daylight for only 6 hours, together with fast learning how to cut, melt, bond and generally work with ice and snow. Hard physical work, but very rewarding.
