Chow Sang Sang has a long history of creating precious objects for people to mark often the most significant moments in their lives – cultural symbols imbued with meaning to represent enduring love.

Our task was to craft a short-term space that would create long-lasting memories and represent the theme of enduring love. CSS has pioneered a technique of cutting diamonds to a high reflective index, with facets that, when viewed under magnification, display the iconic symbol of love: hearts. The Infinity Love Diamond represents the highest level of cut technology — an example of deep craftsmanship designed to symbolize the most important union in a person’s life.

In one of the busiest places in Chengdu we created a temporary pavilion that from the outside represented the simplicity and purity of a diamond, yet within a series of spaces that elicited the emotive feelings of potential that diamonds hold.

From the outside simplicity gives way to an illusion of complexity, a kinetic installation manifests the diamonds reflectivity and cut pattern itself.

Within, a faceted anteroom acts as a threshold between the ordinary world of the shopping district and a territory of the unknown. We created a complete contrast to the noisy brightness of the mall environment with a dark, mist-filled, dreamlike space where laser light cuts through the mist to emphasize a sense of mystery. In surprising moments, glass vitrines with diamonds emerge majestically through the mist, revealing their glittering beauty.

From darkness of the unknown world (an allegory to the first throws of love) having heeded a call to action guests now enter a light filled space full of facets and reflections a space that captures the essence of the infinity love diamond.

This bright, light-filled space stands in contrast to the darkness that came before it. In this moment of clarity, visitors proceed to a space dedicated to showcasing the craftsmanship involved in creating diamonds of such precise cut. In the crafts space, visitors can meet the master jewelers themselves.
