Over the years, we’ve bounced between studio spaces, haphazard and transient — easy come, easy go. We’ve fit in and, slowly (in a way that hard-core kleptomaniacs only know), outgrown our environments by dint of accumulating; a side effect of manically creating. We've always been preoccupied with clients and attendant projects of creation, be it objects places, or experiences — in doing so neglecting the space we ourselves inhabit; this time we became clients.
Our brief and needs are simple and purely pragmatic so we made the space we found fit to us, primarily to our way of working.
Substance over style, pragmatism over prettiness, it is a non-precious space of authentic & messy creativity.
Its space embodies the notion that design is an exploration of strategies, of trial and error of learning by doing. We strongly believe in the empirical approach, theory is all well and good but we are in the business of making stuff real; that means getting our hands dirty at the front end of creativity.
Our space is awash with models, sketches, samples, prototypes of installations, maquettes, and mock-ups. Treasured Flotsam & jetsam of the creative act; trash or treasure? Whilst in design you must learn to let go (of ideas that are not fit for purpose) We do hang on the diamonds in the rough; each holds stories within stories — Artifacts carrying tales of trials and tribulations. The objects in the Studio act like a creative history, a rich library of ideas, some discarded only to be rediscovered and used at a later date.
High-end computers live side by side with angle grinders and 3D printers, sticky back plastic, and blue tack. Computers, objects, materials, and mock-ups that occupy our space are merely tools that accompany the creative act. The space we occupy embodies who we are, what we do and why we do it.
