SLOW ROTATE LAMP is a kinetic light piece using a motor to move a carbon rod in an arc, casting shifting shadows through a cage. The art lies in light’s effect on space, not the object itself.

SLOW ROTATE LAMP is a timed kinetic light installation. A motor pulls a carbon rod through a bearing yoke assembly guiding the rod through an eccentric arc. Tipped by a point of the light the light scribes an eccentric orbit.
There are several configurations in which the installation operates and whose movement can be read and interpreted in multiple ways.
Enclosed with a cage, the light's orbit is read not in itself but in its effect on the surroundings casting shadows to shift and move in relation to the moving light cast against the fixed cage. The art is no longer the object itself, but the surroundings cast by moving light and shadow, the piece subsumes its surroundings.
The cage pattern itself formed with Voronoi.
