REFLECTIVE BLOOMY

Encased by a vast steel drum, something unexpected unfurls..  The Tank; a former bulk industrial storage tank now houses something more delicate.

In the darkened environment, hundreds flowers appear to hover in mid air – a cluster of 48 bouquets move in concert moving up and down within the space as if floating.

Illuminated to emerge from the veil of darkness the flowers are arranged in clusters, each encased by mirrored facets that multiply the apparent flower quantity a simple illusory optical trick inspired by the Victorian Kaleidoscope.   Each bouquet rotates as it moves up and downwards, unplanned serendipitous nod to that the Victorian plaything.

Though here we harness, digital programming, kinetic motors and LED lighting to create a coordinated movements that align with projected wall animations and ambient sound scape. The tank forming a perfect canvas in which to  immerse visitors.

We position a glossy black mirrored floor so visitors look down to look skyward into the heads of the bouquets, more visual tricks to expand the visual experience. Surrounding the mirrored floor are low desk softly illuminated akin to that of a library, whereby visitors are invited o create their own botanicals from lego components. It’s a place for play, for imagination and creativity.
