Graceful arcs of light scribe traceries through the air, captured in long exposure photography the pathways the lights trace are documented.
varying the speeds that the light sources move affects the scribed pathways, differences of past possible recorded in light.

A control box exhibits buttons that when depressed enact a series of rotational movements in a lighting apparatus.

Sat atop a 2m high tripod is a motor controlled rotating plinth, atop the plinth is a cable stayed boom 3.5m long on one side and counterweighed 1.5m boom in the opposing direction. At the primary booms end is a secondary motor and a magnetically coupled secondary armature; the tips of which house LED lights.

Each boom is precisely controlled by a motor that is geared so as to accommodate for the moments of inertia exerted at the extremities of the primary and secondary boom. its an exercise in the fundamentals of physics and photography as much as it is in the study of time.

Each motor is geared and timed in proportional ratios, 1rpm boom : 4rpm secondary motor and so on. the ratios are in prime divisibles, fractions would result in patterns that do not align upon the completion of one revolution.

The control box has buttons that exert discrete control the speed of the primary and secondary motor as well as the light control. combinations of buttons equate to discrete yet variable speed combinations with a possible 18 options available.

Halo XL' is photographed in uncanny locations within global cities - places where time arguably runs at varying speeds for the occupants - frenetic city life or the slow drag of time as nature erodes time. this juxtaposition is intentional - in each 4 minute exposure time exerts its same force, yet is read quite differently in opposing locations.
